Avengers: Power the Night

On Saturday, January 28th, we were invited by InsidEars to experience the new nighttime spectacular Avengers: Power the Night. This new nighttime show runs daily at Walt Disney Studios Park until May 8th. The premise of this show is that at the end of a long day of training at Avengers Campus, recruits are invited for an inspirational message.

Avengers: Power the Night is exactly what was lacking in Walt Disney Studios Park after the opening of Avengers Campus. We were treated to a fantastic drone show during the opening of the new land. After that, it went quiet. Luckily Imagineers were working in secret to add something unique to the park.

The show takes about 8 mins and 30 seconds and uses 500 drones, project mapping, and pyrotechnics. And when I say you will be amazed, that is just an understatement. The storytelling is on point. The original music and animation make it into something that you haven’t experienced before. The drones sometimes get so close to the Tower of Terror that I thought they would collide.  And more than once, I was amazed at how the drones complemented what was seen in the animation. The drones in the sky and lasers and fireworks shooting from the Tower give the animation a 3D feel. I believe that projecting mapping and the use of drones is the future, and Disneyland Paris is definitely the leader in that regard. Also, read the interview with the team that worked hard on creating Avengers: Power the Night.

With the addition of this nighttime show, I hope that Walt Disney Studios Park will start living a little more at night. We already saw some late nights at Avengers Campus, but the rest of the park still needs a little push to make it a full day (and evening) park. Unfortunately, due to the setup, and safety of the recruits, Avengers Campus does close one hour before the park closes, so let’s hope that the rest of the park (including the food establishments) has what it takes to absorb guests who want to see this show.
